  • 3/4 pound extra lean ground beef
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 medium yellow onion, chopped
  • 1 (15-ounce) can chopped stewed tomatoes
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 (15-ounce) can pinto beans, rinsed and drained
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. In a large saucepan over medium heat, combine ground beef, minced garlic, and chopped onion. Cook until the beef is browned (about 10 minutes), removing excess liquid.
  2. Stir in chopped stewed tomatoes, beef broth, chili powder, cumin, oregano, and cayenne pepper. Mix well.
  3. Reduce heat to low and cover. Simmer for 1 hour, stirring occasionally.
  4. Add rinsed pinto beans and salt; stir well and cook for an additional 15 minutes.
