  • 2 pounds Yukon gold potatoes
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a baking dish with butter.
  2. In a saucepan over medium heat, combine heavy cream, whole milk, minced garlic, salt, and pepper; heat until warm but do not boil.
  3. Layer half of the sliced potatoes in the baking dish, pour half of the cream mixture over them, and sprinkle half of each cheese on top.
  4. Repeat the layers with remaining ingredients.
  5. Dot the top with butter, cover with foil, and bake for 40 minutes. Remove foil and bake for an additional 20 minutes until golden and bubbly.
  6. Let cool slightly before serving.
